Life drawing lesson 6

This was a 30 minute drawing and I found it very hard because I prefer quick drawings, I drew her head a bit on the large side but other than that I like how it turned out.

These 4 images where when we had to draw 2 poses with 2 different types of media at the same time and then swap hands. I find it very strange how my left handed one turned out better considering i'm right handed.

3 minute Sketches (my best ones to date)

Pencil drawing where we had to concentrate on tones and not outlines, I found it quite hard but I like how it turned out (30 minutes)

Life drawing lesson 5

We had to completely cover out page with Charcoal and then rub away at it with a rubber, this was to make us focus on the lighting over the shading and outlines.

I love the way the back looks

We were told to use a different media so I went with pen and I think it turned out really well and I am immensely proud of it, especially because I couldn't erase and It still came out neat looking.

Another one where we had to draw the model as he moved, this one was harder than last time because this model walked faster.

3 minute sketches

Life drawing lesson 4

This one was a collab between me and another student, he drew the yellow lines and I shaded with charcoal.

We were told to use a media that we haven't used before, I chose Pencil and Ink.
The Ink was quite difficult to control and the pencil was hard to shade and get different tones.

We had to draw the model as he slowly walked around the room, I found this quite fun, I especially like how the front view one came out because of the way the legs are shaped.

Action poses~ These are my favorites.

Lava Creature

I decided to start drawing straight onto Photoshop to see if I could come up with any ideas and I ended up liking all of them and couldn't pick a favorite.

The first creature has hardened lava forming on top of its molten center giving an appearance of a cloak, it would move similar to a slug as it has no limbs.

The second one is going onto the more over sized mass of rock emerging from lava with a very distorted mouth and a compact rock body (most lava comes out of its mouth, with a few bits seeping out of the cracks every so often)

and the last one has more of a skeletal appearance with one large eye in the center of its head. ( love the hands on this one)

and today I found out that rocks are surprisingly hard to draw when using a program you aren't used to.
I took may favorite one and edited it to add the parts I liked about the other two to it and then tried to redraw it but from the front (it was difficult, but im really happy with how it turned out)

Lava

Today's lesson was Lava which can be a fairly difficult thing to draw but it becomes fairly easy when using a preset layer style that basically does it all for you, the picture above was my first attempt.

After getting to grips with how lava works we then where given a rock/clay guy to draw on to make him look like he was oozing lava, I like how mine came out even though the lava isn't exactly pouring out of him, I like the idea of it just poking out.

Pixel art

To start we had to actually under stand how to draw pixel art in asymmetric so we started easy with squares and circles and then turning them into boxes and cylinders (the boxes proved very helpful when making the tricycle as it helped me keep in in line.

Then we had to create a pixel toy that could be placed in an asymmetric scene, I decided to do a doll but I ended up finishing it quickly so I also did a tricycle.

I really like how they turned out considering both toys I made both had no straight lines and therefore were quite difficult to make. I also think they look natural in the scene.

Futuristic gun

I have never really drawn a gun so this is going to be interesting....

I decided that it would be better if I first got to grips on how to draw an ordinary gun before I go on to drawing a futuristic one, and I think for a first attempt this pistol came out quite well.
These are my rough sketches, I honestly have no idea how to design a gun but I think that these look good, I especially like the first one and the last one
I silhouetted my gun ideas and the first one is defiantly my favorite because its a small gun so it doesnt look too stong but it can pack a punch, also if you run out of ammo you always have the option to just stab your opponents with the spikes.
Considering I have never drawn a proper gun before I think this came out well, even though it looks less futuristic and more supernatural aka it kind of looks like it has skin and claws, you never know maybe in the future they figure out a way to make living guns that can be grown,
I love how the Grip came out

Life drawing lesson 3

I only managed to do a few drawings this lesson because I left half way due to feeling like I was going to die because I had a cold and being in a hot room when you have one is not very nice, but I do like what I was able to draw int that time.

We first did 5 warm up sketches and then went onto more expressive drawing with messier lines and with more movement in the shoulder, I think mine came out pretty well and I am especially proud of the left handed ones.

Rock and Column

I found this rock very easy, much much much easier than the Barrel and for that reason I found it fun but not as satisfying.

This column made me lose my mind but not as much as the barrel. I did need Phil to re-explain some parts to me as I didn't fully understand it the first time but I finally got it and after I got it I ended up helping some people around me complete theirs so I feel more confident making columns and could probably make it better but I think I need to leave it for a while otherwise I think I will die.

Barrel

Making this barrel was a very difficult and sanity draining exercise, but with the constant help of Phil I finally finished it even though it isn't amazing (mostly because I drew they lighting on the bottom and then just gave up) but i'm glad I finished it as I now could probably make it by myself again... just not the UV part, I still don't get that part.

Elf and Dwarf

A study to see how many heads tall an elf and dwarf are, the elf is 9.5 heads tall and the dwarf is 4 heads tall.

Realism Research

I am going to research the realism art movement and how it developed over the years, where it originated from and how it differs from other art movements.

Realism originated from France in the 1850s where the dominant art movement was romanticism, a movement the was born from artists wanting to draw what they wanted even if it wasn't necessarily real as German painter Caspar David Friedrich said "the artist's feeling is his law". The realist painters rejected the idea of Romanticism because it wasn't 100% true to reality.

Above is a Romanticism piece (left) and a Realism piece (Right) The images are both of a landscape but the romanticism one is brighter and more wondrous whereas the Realism one sticks to realistic colours no matter how dull they may seem and doesn't over empathies the lighting to make it brighter and more appealing, but the art is true to real life and therefor doesn't give viewer a false idea of what the world is like.

Realism is a very strict art movement that makes sure it is an accurate and detailed representation of that the scene in front of them to the extent that it avoids stylization through technique and training.
However there are quite a few cases where realism hasn't stuck with reality like when artist in the 15th century would depict things with angel wings and how in the 19th century painters some realism artists would paint images with characteristics of Academic paintings which had links back to romanticism. These artist would instead create fictitious or imagined historical scenes with great care to the extent that they could fool anyone into believing they were real scenes captured in the moment.

Because of how realism varies it is closer to say that in a whole the art movement is realism but not all the artists are realists, for example the child looks like a child and is anatomically correct they just so happens to have wings growing out their back, but the wings themselves are also realistic as they look like the wings of a dove, It is realism but it is not realistic.

So realism technically has multiple branches that all do something different but in the end all have a similar appearance in that the image looks as if it could jump out of the page. One branch is Illusionistic realism which takes on a more stylized and idealized approach to art, one example of an influential model of illusionistic realism are the Ancient Greeks who created statues and paintings of their gods and hero's that no one really knew the appearance of but they attempted to represent them with idealized and beautiful forms.
